Bone Density Measurement

DXA measurement for early detection and treatment monitoring of osteoporosis. The gold standard for assessing your bone health.

Available at both locations

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis (bone loss) is a systemic skeletal disease in which bone mass decreases and bone structure deteriorates. This leads to increased bone fragility.

The disease develops gradually and is often only recognized after the first bone fracture. Early diagnosis enables timely treatment and can prevent fractures.

Osteoporosis - the Silent Danger

In Germany, approximately 6 million people are affected by osteoporosis. One in three women and one in five men over 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture.

The DXA Method

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the WHO-recommended standard procedure for bone density measurement. Two X-ray beams of different energies are sent through the bone.

The lumbar spine and femoral neck are typically measured - the most common sites for osteoporotic fractures.

The Result: T-Score

≥ -1

Normal Bone Density

No increased fracture risk

-1 to -2.5

Osteopenia

Reduced bone density (precursor)

< -2.5

Osteoporosis

Increased fracture risk, therapy recommended

Benefits of DXA Measurement

Gold standard for osteoporosis diagnostics
Minimal radiation exposure
Quick, painless examination
Precise measurement results
Ideal for follow-up monitoring
WHO-compliant evaluation

Who Should Be Tested?

We recommend bone density measurement for the following risk factors:

Women from age 60 (also after onset of menopause)
Men from age 65
Family history
Long-term corticosteroid therapy
Smoking and alcohol
Lack of physical activity
Underweight / Malnutrition
Previous bone fractures
Chronic diseases

Insurance Coverage

As a preventive examination, bone density measurement is a self-pay service. Private health insurance usually covers the costs.
